VICTORY! But we’re not done yet - Help us say 'THANK YOU' to legislators

Posted over 8 years ago by Paula Christianson-Silva

On Monday, December 7, 2015, a State legislative panel recommended approval of the APRN Sunrise Application, which would expand the Scope of Practice for Advanced Practice Registered Nurses . The proposal passed on a 5-4 vote.

Now, it is critical that we thank the five legislators who stood with Arizona nurses when we needed them.

Please take less than 5 minutes from your day to send a "thank you" email to these five legislators. Let's show them that we appreciate their support.

Monday's hearing was the first hurdle in our journey to update the Nurse Practice Act by allowing Advanced Practice Nurses to function at the full extent of their education and training. Supporting this proposal is a historic coalition that includes the Arizona Nurses Association and the four Advanced Practice nursing groups. Our power when we speak with one voice is impressive and was on display Monday as 200 nurses rallied at the State Capitol. More than 700 letters in support of the APRN proposal have been gathered from Arizona nurses and health care supporters just like you.

But we are not done. Monday's hearing was just a warm-up for the legislative session, which begins in January. That's when our proposal will be considered by the Arizona State Senate and House of Representatives. As nurses and health care supporters, it is critical that we remain engaged in this process and continue to show legislators we are unified in supporting an updated Scope of Practice for Advanced Practice nurses.
